What tickles your soul?
What makes your soul come alive?
What makes your soul feel loved and cared for?
This question popped up as I was listening to my favourite coach and mentor this morning, Debola-Deji Kurunmi as part of my morning routine. My day starts with listening to my spiritual father on Mixlr; Morning Dew, from there I go to study the scriptures and after that, I listen to my early morning dose of inspiration from DDK or any other person on my to-do list. Today’s webinar was based on the Principle of Self-compassion and along the line, the question popped up. After thinking about it and answering it for myself. I decided to ask a couple of friends, well I asked two people.
The first answer was from someone, who claimed to be a simple man and his response was simple as well: his music, his books and solitude, and all other things are extra but if those three are in place, his soul feels cared for. The other person is my bestie and she mentioned a lot of things: playing, dancing, praying, journaling, music, traveling/adventure/trying out new things that demand the use of my energy, playing, hanging out with friends; social gatherings, and hangouts, amongst many other things she mentioned. She’s not a simple woman, lol.
There are lots of things that make us feel alive but a lot of people are not aware of what makes their soul feel alive and loved because they don’t even spend time to know themselves. For someone like me, I don’t draw energy from social gatherings or hangouts. Left to me, I would avoid social gatherings because it saps my energy and it wears and tires me out easily. My solitude is my lifeline, my adventurous novels, journaling, music, taking a looooong walk, or hopping on a bike for a long-distance journey. You see the reading of novels really gets me so well, I'll sprawl in a corner lost in the world of my imagination, creating images of the book I’m reading feeds my soul, it’s like my soul draws satisfaction in that in itself and I’m rewarded with a feeling and giddiness that only books do to me.
The question actually made me really think about the quality of my soul and I made a commitment to do it often because I sensed some level of neglect because I want to achieve my goals, tasks, and all. But then, this is quite important.
You see the quality of your soul affects the quality of your life, and tickling your soul, and caring for your soul is one of the ways to improve the quality of your soul. You just need to find yours and stick with it while exploring other ones. Another one for me is skydiving, I told my friend that if I get old, I will still skydive.
I’m asking you, what makes your soul tickle?
You must find it.
I’m rooting for you.
